Thermal Conductivity of a Poor Conductor – Lee’s Method

  1. Check the continuity of the liquid column and the linear behavior of the thermometers before beginning the experiment.
  2. This experiment involve generation of steam and handling of the steam bath during the experiment during steps # 5,6 of procedure. Hence, use the gloves without fail while following the steps # 5,6.
  3. Keep the steam outlet away from electrical connections Setup the apparatus in a way to ensure that while following the step # 5,6of procedure the thermometers are not removed or damaged.
  4. There will be radiation loss due to thickness. But, we consider only loss due to surface. Hence, we should consider specimen so, that thickness is negligible to that of diameter.
  5. The graph gives curve, hence while calculating slope proper care should be taken.
