About Us

Welcome to our research group! Our focus of research is to explore the matter under extreme states under controlled laboratory environment using laser pulses of different durations (ns, ps & fs) and energies (mJ to J). While working on the challenging physics involved in HEDP, a need to look at the entire aspect of “Finis Extremis” of “dynamics states of matter” from a novel perspective is realized leading to directed basic research. My research team focuses on the following primary areas:

  • Spatio-temporal evolution of laser induced plasmas and shock waves: Experiments vis-à-vis Numerical Simulations
    • Shaping of the laser generated spherical shockwaves to planar shockwaves using structuring of target surface and generation of planar shock waves propagating over few tens of mm leading to efficient laser shock peening of materials.
    • Exploration of non-equilibrium state of stable/unstable materials emphasizing on the study of phase transformations involved in energetics under controlled high pressures.
  • Propagation of ultrashort laser pulses in media leading to filamentation nonlinearoptics: Experiments vis-à-vis Numerical Simulations:

    Our research covers:

    • Generation of supercontinuum emission, with an aim to generate directional THz radiation from intense, ultrashort laser produced filaments in air: aiming towards development of field techniques, novel probes of detecting hazardous materials from a distance.
    • Studying the Propagation of intense fs pulses giving insight of atoms & molecules, through gaseous media leading to filamentation nonlinear optics.
