Welcome to our research group! Our focus of research is to explore the matter under extreme states under controlled laboratory environment using laser pulses of different durations (ns, ps & fs) and energies (mJ to J). While working on the challenging physics involved in HEDP, a need to look at the entire aspect of “Finis Extremis” of “dynamics states of matter” from a novel perspective is realized leading to directed basic research. My research team focuses on the following primary areas:
Our research covers:
My team’s research in the area of “pulsed laser-matter interaction” focusses on thespatio-temporal dynamics of plasma, ablative shockwaves, laser plasma induced phase transformation of materials, laser shock peening and filamentation nonlinear optics. Our major focus is
1. Nd: YAG laser system (10 ns, 5 Hz, 7 J @ 1064 nm), with an option to generate second harmonic at 532 nm with a pulse energy of 5 J.
2. Nd: YAG laser system (30 ps, 10 Hz, 40-110 mJ@1064 nm), with an option to generate second, third, fourth, and fifth harmonics at 532, 355, 266, and 215 nm respectively.
3. Laser beam profiler with a CCD camera with a laser beam sampling system for the CCD camera (BGP-FWB-GRAS20 and LBS-300-BB, M/s. Ophir Sphiricon) for measuring the input laser beam profile.
4. ICCD/sCMOS/InGaAs cameras (from M/s. ANDOR) to image the plasma plume evolution.
5. Low power and High power He-Ne lasers.
6. High energy mirrors, lenses to guide the ns, ps, and fs laser pulses.
7. Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, RF Spectrum Analyzer with antennas.
8. Coherent Legend-USP, fs laser system (50 fs, 2 mJ @ 800 nm, 1 kHz).
9. X,Y,Z,-theta stages with controllers.
10. COMSOL-Multiphysics 6.2, Academic Class Kit License for 30 students.
11. Dell Precision 7820 with 512 GB RAM and an RTX6000 GPU card.
